According to a CTV (Canadian Television Network) News piece, Canadian Prime minister Steven Harper has gone on the record to say that Canada will stand behind the Israeli nation “whatever the cost”. Canada also recently lost it’s seat on the UN security council for which Steven Harper’s political opponent Michael Ignatief squarely blames the Prime Minister’s stand for Israel.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he is prepared to suffer any political backlash that comes his way for speaking out against anti-Israel rhetoric.

Harper told an audience Monday that while Israel is receptive to fair criticism, Canada is obligated to stand up for its ally when it comes under attack from others.

“Not just because it is the right thing to do, but because history shows us, and the ideology of the anti-Israel mob tell us all too well, that those who threaten the existence of the Jewish people are in the longer term a threat to all of us.”

After his caucus meeting on Monday, Ignatieff criticized Harper for

suggesting that Canada’s recent failure to secure a seat on the UN Security Council can be blamed on the federal government’s support for Israel.

“They’re trying to claim it’s a moral victory,” Ignatieff told reporters.

“It’s a defeat, especially if you want to support the state of Israel. What is the institution that’s enforcing sanctions against Iran, which is a strategic threat to Israel? The Security Council. If you’re not on it, you’re not playing.”

Canadian and Israeli Flag - Ying and Yang

"I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." Genesis 12:3

No one would deny that during the current global economic crisis Canada has fared best among the developed nations of the world, with the strength of it’s economy standing out amongst all the economic carnage of the current downturn. If you ask me, I’d say “Canada’s stand with and for Israel at this time has brought GOD’s blessing upon her”. We should pray for the leadership of Canada and for all leaders around the world to have the courage, strength and wisdom to stand for Israel so that we all might be blessed.

Psalm 122:6 “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.”
